Historical overview

Morona Santiago was created as a province on September 15, 1959. Their ancestral territory was inhabited by the Shuar people, whose culture, language and traditions are still alive today. The Salesian mission of the 19th century marked the first contact with the Western world, leaving a legacy in architecture, education and intercultural coexistence.
